Raqib Shaw is a Kashmiri artist who lives and works in London. He is known for his hedonistic, subversive, wildly opulent and phantasmagorical paintings. Heavily influenced by old masters like Bosch and Holbein, his works are a shimmering melange of Persian motifs, Flemish paintings, industrial materials, Japanese lacquer and colored jewels. We are blown away by his fantastic dreamscapes that straddle the monstrous and the erotic. We think he is a true Punk and a master whose work although deeply rooted in classical draftsmanship is completely against the grain.
