Our baroque-meets-punk wasp motif was found in a jumble of vintage illustrations. After testing various hand embroidery techniques, our artisans settled on "ari" stitch which is executed with a hooked needle, a legacy of the Mughal embroidery workshops from 18th century India.
We used gold spring wire and metallic threads to create a swarm of electric and ornate wasps. The spring metal wire is sturdy and adds a 3D effect to the finished piece. It takes two artisans over 4 days on a loom to embroider each Wasp bag. We love how each wasp is slowly transformed into a rock n roll statement. Baroque Punk.
